Beppo-SAX OBSERVATION OF THE COMA CLUSTER
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present first results of the BeppoSAX observation of the Coma Cluster. Thanks to the unprecedented sensitivity of the PDS instrument, the source has been detected up to ∼80 keV. There is clear evidence for emission in excess to the thermal one above ∼25 keV, very likely of non-thermal origin. We have therefore, for the first time, detected the long sought Inverse Compton emission on CMB photons predicted in clusters, like Coma, with radio halos. Combining X and radio observations, a value of 0.16 μG for the volume-averaged intracluster magnetic field is derived.

On the thermal origin of the hard X-ray emission from the Coma cluster
We analyze the origin of the hard X-ray flux from the Coma cluster observed by the Beppo-SAX satellite. This flux is typically assumed to be produced by nonthermal particles accelerated in the Coma medium. We show, however, that in the case of in-situ acceleration of particles from the thermal pool, the hard X-rays in the range of Beppo-SAX observations (30−80 keV) are generated by bremsstrahlu...

The high spatial resolution of the MECS experiment on board Beppo-SAX has encouraged a few scientists, including the author, to perform observations of galaxy clusters. Results from the analysis of the first few observed objects are encouraging. After having reviewed the Beppo-SAX observing program for galaxy clusters and referenced contributions to these proceedings by other authors on the sam...

Hard X-ray radiation has been detected for the first time in the Coma cluster by Beppo-SAX . Thanks to the unprecedented sensitivity of the Phoswich Detection System (PDS) instrument, the source has been detected up to ∼80 keV. There is clear evidence (4.5σ) for non-thermal emission in excess of thermal above ∼25 keV. The hard excess is very unlikely due to X Comae, the Seyfert 1 galaxy present...
متن کاملBeppo - SAX temperature maps of galaxy clusters in the Corona Borealis supercluster : A 2061 , A 2067 and A 2124
In this paper we present the analysis of Beppo-SAX observations of the cluster pairs A2061–A2067 and A2122–A2124, located in the Corona Borealis supercluster, which have been selected as candidate merging clusters. The aim of this work is to study the physics of the intracluster medium and to look for the possible presence of merging signatures. We derived the global temperatures and abundances...
متن کاملSuzaku Confirms Ngc 3660 Is an Unabsorbed Seyfert 2
An enigmatic group of objects, unabsorbed Seyfert 2s may have intrinsically weak broad line regions, obscuration in the line of sight to the BLR but not to the X-ray corona, or so much obscuration that the X-ray continuum is completely suppressed and the observed spectrum is actually scattered into the line of sight from nearby material. NGC 3660 has been shown to have weak broad optical/near i...
